Moderation Policy
Last updated: 14/10/2026
Moderation on UNEAR aims to maintain a positive, safe, and respectful environment while protecting everyone’s freedom of expression. This policy explains how and why we moderate content, what actions may be taken, and how to appeal a decision if you believe it was made in error.
Child Safety Standards (CSAE)
These Child Safety Standards apply to UNEAR (published on Google Play as UNEAR: Couples, Family & LDR, and on the Apple App Store), the website unear.app and every related service operated by UNEAR. They form part of our Terms of Use and are binding on every user.
Zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation
UNEAR strictly prohibits child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) in any form. It is forbidden to use UNEAR to:
- create, upload, share, request or store child sexual abuse material (CSAM), including drawn, generated, edited or AI-generated imagery that sexualises a minor;
- sexualise a minor in any photo, caption, message, challenge, comment or profile;
- groom a minor, that is, build contact or trust with a child for the purpose of sexual abuse or exploitation;
- sexually extort (“sextort”) a minor, or threaten to share intimate images of a minor;
- traffic, advertise or solicit a child for sexual purposes;
- share links to, or otherwise promote or facilitate access to, any of the above outside UNEAR.
This prohibition applies to all users, in all Groups, private chats and content, without exception.
How UNEAR protects children
- The minimum age to use UNEAR is 13. Minors below the age of digital consent in their country may only use UNEAR with verifiable parental consent (see Section 3 of the Terms of Use).
- UNEAR has no public feed, no discovery algorithm and no search for strangers: content is only visible inside closed, invitation-only Groups.
- Every user can block another user at any time; a blocked user can no longer see your content, message you, invite you or add you to a Group.
Reporting child safety concerns
If you encounter content or behaviour that may involve the abuse or exploitation of a child:
- In the app: open the menu attached to the photo or message concerned and choose “Report”. Reporting is available on every photo and every message.
- By email: write to team@unear.app with the subject “Child safety report”. You do not need to give your own contact details for a report concerning an offence against a child.
If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. You can also report CSAM directly to the authorities: in France, PHAROS; in the United States, the NCMEC CyberTipline; in Canada, Cybertip.ca.
How we respond
Child safety reports are treated as our highest priority. When we become aware of CSAE or CSAM on UNEAR, we:
- remove the content and make it inaccessible without delay;
- permanently ban the accounts involved;
- preserve the relevant data as required by law, so that it can be made available to law enforcement;
- report the content and the accounts involved to the competent authorities, including PHAROS in France and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) where applicable;
- cooperate with law enforcement requests related to child safety.
Compliance with child safety laws
UNEAR complies with all applicable child safety laws and regulations, including the laws of France and the European Union (including the Digital Services Act), and the laws of every country in which UNEAR is available.
Child safety point of contact
UNEAR has a designated point of contact for child safety matters, who can be reached by users, authorities and app store providers regarding our CSAE prevention practices and compliance:
- Email: team@unear.app (subject: “Child safety”)
- Postal address: UNEAR, 92 rue de Lourmel, 75015 Paris, France
Moderation principles
Our moderation team ensures that all content shared on UNEAR complies with:
- The Terms of Use
- The Terms of Use
- And the European Digital Services Act (DSA)
We aim to intervene as little as possible, but we reserve the right to take action whenever content or behavior threatens safety, respect, or legality on the platform.
Types of possible actions
Depending on the severity or recurrence of a violation, UNEAR may:
- Remove or hide content (text, photo, video, comment, challenge, etc.)
- Warn the user concerned and specify the reason for the action
- Temporarily limit certain actions (posting, commenting, sending challenges, etc.)
- Suspend or deactivate an account in cases of repeated or serious violations
- Report any illegal content to the competent authorities (in accordance with the DSA)
In each case, UNEAR commits to providing, whenever possible, a clear explanation of the reason and nature of the action taken.
User reporting
Any user can report content or behavior they consider to be:
- Illegal
- Discriminatory or offensive
- Contrary to these Terms or to the Acceptable Use Policy
To report content:
- Click on the “Report” option available under the relevant post or profile
- Indicate the reason for the report
Our team will review the situation and, if necessary, take appropriate action.
Reports are handled within a reasonable timeframe, and users receive a notification of the outcome (content removed, not removed, or other action taken).
Right to appeal
If you believe a decision (content removal, account suspension, etc.) was made in error, you may appeal by following these steps:
- Go to the “Support & Appeals” section in the app or on the website
- Complete the appeal form, specifying:
- The decision concerned
- The reasons why you believe it is unjustified
- Any relevant information or screenshots to support your request
Our team will review your case and respond within a maximum of 30 business days.
If, after this internal appeal, you are not satisfied with the outcome, you may contact an independent out-of-court dispute resolution body, in accordance with the DSA.
Transparency and accountability
UNEAR is committed to periodically publishing transparency reports detailing, in particular:
- The number of reports received
- The most common types of violations
- The moderation actions applied
- The average processing times
These reports are intended to ensure trust, transparency, and accountability in managing the UNEAR community.
Spirit of moderation
Moderation on UNEAR is not censorship, it is a tool for collective protection. Its purpose is to foster an atmosphere where users feel free to be themselves while respecting others.
We encourage kindness, creativity, and humor, but never at the expense of another person’s dignity or safety.
